Split Proudly Welcomes Its Olympians

Split’s Riva buzzed with excitement as the city celebrated its Olympic heroes who returned from the Paris Games. The festive reception saw a heartwarming turnout of Split residents who turned out in large numbers to honor their athletes.

Among the celebrated were:

  • Filip Jurišić and Elena Vorobjeva, the talented sailors
  • Jere Hribar, the accomplished swimmer
  • Barbara Matić, who clinched gold with Judo Club Pujanke
  • Lena Stojković, who secured bronze with Taekwondo Club Marjan
  • Ante Vukičević, Rino Burić, and Jerko Marinić Kragić, the silver medalists from Water Polo Club Jadran

The celebration was marked by vibrant music from the Diktatori band, adding to the festive atmosphere that’s quintessential to Dalmatian celebrations. The athletes expressed their gratitude to the cheering crowds.

“Thank you for coming to support us. My heart is full to see so many people in my Split. I’m really glad we made you proud,” said Barbara Matić, glowing with pride from the stage.

Lena Stojković, feeling at home, delighted the crowd by singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her father, making it a memorable gift for him.

The event not only highlighted the achievements of these remarkable athletes but also underscored the strong community spirit and pride in Split.

Silver Rino Burić said that the water polo players are satisfied with their sports year:

"I hope we made you proud, even though we didn't manage to get to the very end. I think silver is also a great success, it's really a great honor to wear an Olympic medal around your neck."
Jerko Marinić Kragić also expressed his pride and hope for the future of Barakud:

"Gold was our ultimate goal, we didn't succeed, but it's a good incentive for the next four years," he said.
The waterfront was filled with happy and proud people, many of whom took the opportunity to take photos with the Olympians!

With this welcome, Split once again showed how much it appreciates its athletes and how much togetherness and pride can make this city even more special.
Our Olympians paraded through the West Coast before coming on stage.
