The 47th Flower Festival Opens in Diocletian’s Cellars

The 47th edition of the Flower Festival, officially named “Marulić’s Flower – Split”, has commenced in grand style within the historic Diocletian’s Cellars. This year’s festival is set to captivate audiences across multiple locations in Split, showcasing a stunning array of floral artistry and craftsmanship.

Event Details:

  • Dates and Locations:
    • Riva and Voćni trg: March 16 to 24
    • Diocletian’s Cellars: March 20 to 26

Highlights:

  • Main Scenographer: The renowned florist Simon Ogrizek has led the design efforts, supported by about fifty florists from Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, and China. Their collective expertise promises an extraordinary display of floral arrangements that will engage all the senses.
  • Florint’s Involvement: The president of Florint, the international organization of florists, praised the collaborative efforts, expressing pride in the festival’s ability to awaken emotions and charm through its floral displays.

Expanded Venues:

  • This year, the festival has expanded to include three distinct locations. The Split Trades Association has broadened the scope to make the festival accessible and enjoyable for a wider audience, not just floral enthusiasts. The addition of Riva and Voćni trg complements the traditional setting of Diocletian’s Cellars.

Special Features:

  • Old Crafts Fair: In a nod to the renaissance era of Marulić, the festival will feature a symbolic fair of old crafts on Voćni trg. This segment highlights traditional, forgotten crafts and includes collaborations with craftsmen from Varaždin.
  • Fashion and Hairstyle Shows: Adding a modern twist to the festival, there will be fashion and hairstyle shows showcasing the intersection of floral art with contemporary design.

Vilim Bujević, president of the Split Craftsmen’s Association, expressed his enthusiasm for the festival, noting the impressive display of various flowers and the positive impact on local craftsmanship. Bujević also highlighted the festival’s role in supporting local artisans from Banovina, who have benefited from the event.
