HANDS – Festival nematerijalne baštine

This event takes place twice a year (in spring and autumn) as one of the best destination experiences during the low season and aims to present rich heritage, traditional crafts and indigenous products. The spring festival was held on the Split Waterfront from 20th to 24th of April 2016, while the autumn festival will be held from 23rd to 27th of September 2016. Besides the festival, the event will also include various lectures and workshops, as well as promotions and product sampling. The program includes folklore society performances, cappella groups and traditional musical instrument workshops, which are particularly interesting for local visitors as well as tourists.

The spring festival presents springtime customs and products while the autumn HANDS festival celebrates autumn produce, their application in craftsmanship and gastronomic delicacies. This was all part of a rich cultural heritage which consisted of a great number of traditional meals, delicacies and recipes that were saved by our grandmothers in centuries-old cookbooks.
All of this creates a recognizable image of a destination which cherishes tradition and local identity in the globalization era; a destination which can still be called “The Mediterranean as it once was”. The HANDS FESTIVAL has been held every year since 2014 when the first fair in Diocletian’s Basement took place. Over 70 exhibitors from all over Croatia participate in the fair, together with guests from Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
